Artist in the class

ARTIST IN THE CLASS: Lisa Lipsett
We are very proud to have had Lisa Lipsett visiting our school (from September 15th to October 27th ).  She worked with our primary and intermediate classes, drawing and painting a stream to enable a creative nature connection; this was a component of the overall Phoenix Stream Enhancement Project. The first week was called “Getting in Touch” and kids found different textures to draw with. For more information about Lisa please go to her website. Lisa is also the mother of our LDP student Ruby!

ARTIST IN THE CLASS: Mask Making Workshop with Wendi Gilson
We also had a series of sessions with artist Wendy Wilson, starting October 5th. Workshop Description: “My plan for a school workshop is that a celebratory day would be chosen (ie. Halloween, solstice), ..masks would be created and a procession made… Mask making—using traditional mask making techniques (clay covered with papier mache), make a mask of the animal that most appeals to you. ARTIST IN THE CLASS: Seasonal Music Story with Oona McOuat     We are very pleased because our students in grades K-3 (Phoenix and Learning Design), had artist Oona McOuat every Thursday, from November 17th until December 8th, and developed a seasonal musical story.

Here is a more specific outline of the piece created with our students: As Winter descends, the island where the children live is slowly and mysteriously shrouded in darkness.  A dusty old book comes to life, and as the Wizard of the Deep Woods and other magical characters spill from its pages, the children embark on a musical journey to prepare for Winter Solstice and call back the light.

For more information about Oona please visit her website. Thank you so much to Artist in the Classroom, sponsored by the Arts Council.
